Do you qualify?
Candidates should be 18 years of age or over with obesity (BMI ≥30), or with excess weight (overweight BMI ≥27) who also have weight-related medical problems. It is not recommended to use these drugs if you or any of your family have ever had a type of thyroid cancer called medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or if you have an endocrine system condition called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
How does it work?
These injectables are effective in weight loss as they delay gastric emptying, and enhance sensation of fullness, thus decreasing food intake. These agents have been successfully studied in obese, non-diabetic patients.
What are the side effects?
Common side effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists may include: nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, stomach (abdomen) pain, headache, tiredness (fatigue), upset stomach, dizziness, feeling bloated, belching, gas, stomach flu and heartburn.
